Grade 9 Science Surface Area to Volume Ratio Activity
Feb. 10, 2019
Cells have a size limit, the reason why is because the surface area and volume ratio do not stay the same as their size increases. The larger the cell becomes, the less surface area does not increase in comparison with its volume. It is not efficient for a cell to be large as transportation within the cell will be more complicated. In this lab, paper cubes were used to represent cells. The dimension along one side will be doubled with each model. We then calculated the surface area, volume, and the ratio between the two for each model.
